History
In the fall
of 2003 Clayton High School Principal Jerry Smith asked for
volunteers to assist in planning our 100th Anniversary Celebration
in 2004. Assistant Principal Amelia McLeod led the committees that
planned the celebration.
Bucky
Coats, Class 1956, had been discussing the idea of forming a CHS
Alumni Association with Alumni for a couple of years and discussed
the idea with Jerry Smith and Amelia McLeod. Both supported the
proposed Alumni Association and it was launched during our 100th
Anniversary Celebration.
Attorney Allen Tew, Class 1962,
drafted our By-Laws and filed the required documents and on July 7,
2004, the US Internal Revenue Service approved Clayton High School
Alumni Association as a Section 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization.
Gail Smith O'Neil, Class of 1966, designed our Alumni
Association logo.
Roy White, Class of 1966, and Hugh Myers, Class
of 1960, have served as our Web Masters.
Our Alumni
Association was formed to:
- Offer annual scholarship funding for
CHS graduates
- Promote class reunions
- Maintain contact
information for CHS alumni, faculty, and friends
- Assist Clayton
High School administration as requested.
Thanks to the
leadership of our officers and generosity of Alumni, Faculty and
Friends we have awarded 134 scholarships. Total amount of
scholarship awards is $133,500.00.
